League Age Determination: Your player’s league age is determined by the Little League Baseball and Little League Softball Age Chart. Dates for baseball and softball are different, but each determines the division in which your Little Leaguer will play this season. The Age Determination Date for a Little League Softball player is the actual age of a child on December 31 of the previous year.

Softball

T-Ball I (Co-ed league ages 4-5): This division is designed for the newest of players! Players will hit off a tee, run the bases, and have a lot of fun! There are no outs and the runs don't matter. Perfect for first or second time players.

T-Ball II  (Co-ed league ages 5-6): This division is designed for players that have played T-Ball I or are league age 6 and trying out baseball for the first time. Players can hit off a tee or soft toss from a coach.  Innings play for 3 outs or batting through the lineup, whichever comes first.

Softball Rookies (league ages 6-8): Players will face live pitching from either a machine or coach. Teams are formed based primarily on school location. A player who is league age 6 and has Little League or Cal Ripkin T-Ball experience may enroll at this level of play with Board Approval. Teams will travel throughout the Treasure Valley to play interleague games.

Softball Minors (league ages 8-11): All games in this division will be player-pitch. To make the teams balanced, all players in this division must attend an assessment (information below). Teams are drafted by the coaches. Players that are league age 8 may come for an assessment. If a player is league age 8 and not drafted to a team, the player will be placed in Rookies (see above). Teams will travel throughout the Treasure Valley to play interleague games. This division is broken up into AAA and AA divisions.

Softball Majors (league ages 9-12): All games in this division will be player-pitch. To make the teams balanced, all players in this division must attend an assessment (information below). Teams are drafted by the coaches. Coaching style may or may not dictate equal playing time. However, Little League minimum play rules are followed. Teams will travel throughout the Treasure Valley to play interleague games.

Softball Juniors/Seniors (league ages 13-16): All games in this division will be player-pitch. Players that are league age 12 may attend assessments and be selected for a Juniors team, if the team is not full and the player is capable of playing at the higher competition. Coaching style may or may not dictate equal playing time. However, Little League minimum play rules are followed. Teams will travel throughout the Treasure Valley to play interleague games.

Player Assessments

For all player-pitch divisions (ages 8+), a skills assessment of players is required prior to the start of the season. For spring 2026, players will be assigned a 1-hour assessment time on either February 27, 28 or March 1. This is not a try-out. All players will be placed on a team. The assessment helps coaches determine which team is the most appropriate for the player. Teams are formed by a player draft. All league age 12 players will be drafted into the Majors or above division. All exceptions to this rule must be approved by the District Administrator. Requests for team placement with friends, schoolmates or carpool needs are not considered in these divisions.

Assessments are held in the Kuna Middle School gymnasium or outside weather permitting. Players should wear comfortable clothing, athletic shoes, an athletic cup and bring a mitt. Absolutely no cleats are allowed in the gym for assessments. Players will be hitting from a pitching machine and are welcome to bring a bat and helmet, but it is not required.

Boundary Requirements

Little League International has changed the boundary requirements! Players league age 7 or younger can register in ANY LEAGUE they choose. Older siblings can also sign up for the same league and be eligible for all-stars. If your player is league age 8 or older, and is interested in the all-star program, contact us with questions. Little League rules and regulations continue to evolve and we our volunteers do our best to stay informed.
